Get in touch with your property manager
Many installations start with a resident's request. Use the template below to start the conversation about getting EV charging in your building.
Subject: Request to explore EV charging at [Building name]
Dear [Property Manager's Name],
I am a resident at [your property address] and I [plan to buy/own] an electric vehicle. I'm writing to ask whether we can explore installing EV charging at [Building name], and I'd be grateful for your help getting this started.
Almost one in four new cars registered in the UK in 2025 was fully electric. With electric cars becoming mainstream, drivers living in flats will increasingly want to charge their cars at home. As more residents switch, I expect charging to become something buyers and renters look for.
Funding is available. The government's EV Chargepoint Grant for landlords covers 75% of the cost of a charge point, up to £500 per socket, and can be applied for by property managers. It currently runs to 31 March 2027, subject to government budget. [Scotland only: Property managers and factors can also apply to the Scottish Factored Development Charge Point Fund for up to 50% of installation costs, capped at £20,000 per project. It is first come, first served and may close without notice, so it's worth acting soon.]
To explore this opportunity further, I suggest starting with a site survey from Cosmic Charging. They provide EV charging for apartment buildings and have designed their solution specifically for that environment, which means they're well placed to help. They recently completed UK’s largest fully funded residential EV infrastructure project with 319 bays in Leith, Edinburgh. They'd be happy to offer a free survey if you contact them through their website: cosmic-charging.com/contact.
Could you let me know whether you're open to exploring this? I'm happy to help however I can to facilitate this initiative.
Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
[Your name]
